Dear Elkhorn Softball Parents,
The EGSA board of directors is already at work planning for the 2008 Softball season. Registration is set for Thursday January 24th & Saturday and January26th at Common Ground or online at www.elkhorngirlssoftball.com.
The Skills Assessment will be on Sunday February 10th at Elkhorn High School. Girls playing in the 10, 12 , 14 and under leagues, please plan on attending.
With approximately 400 girls in our program each of the last two years, here are the plans for next season:
1) We will again be able to play all of our 10U Rec games in Elkhorn. This will mean less traveling and make it easier to attend games for parents and players. Teams are built via a player draft allowing for competitive balance.
2) Our 12U Rec teams will be playing in the Millard Softball Association. This will again allow us to form teams exclusively with girls from Elkhorn. All games will be played at one site.
3) We will again be offering options for girls that wish to play at the “Competitive” level. This will be for girls in the 10U and 12U age groups. (Older age groups may or may not be available at this level depending on the number of girls that wish to play). These games will still be played in either the Todd Valley League or an Omaha League as very good competition exists in both. We are assuming 30-40 games for these teams which include 3-4 tournaments.
4) At the T-ball and Coach Pitch levels we had enough coaches to keep team number in the 10-12 ranges. Again our goal next year to give the girls as much playing time as possible. Big thanks to those parents that volunteered last year.
5) We want to strongly encourage you to register your girl(s) to play with their friends. Talk to the parents of your girl’s friends and fill in the coach request or player request lines of the registration form. You can sign up an entire team if you wish. We want to make the softball experience one the girls enjoy, no better way to do this than with friends.
To make the registration process easier for you we are include a registration form for each girl that has previously registered. Just fill this form out and drop it in the mail to the PO Box indicated on the form along with a check and you don’t even have to leave the house. You can also fill these out ahead of time and just bring them to the registration at Common Ground. We also offer on-line registration. Complete the on-line form and mail in your check.
As noted, we will need your support as Head Coaches, Assistants, and yes, even board members. It is critical that we have coaches for all of our teams and age groups. Volunteer to be the head coach of a team and one child on that team will be able to play for free; refunds will be given after you turn in your equipment.
EGSA is also looking too fill paid umpiring positions for our 10U league, $15 per game. All games are in Elkhorn, Fire Ridge Fields and High School Field. Game nights last year were Tuesday and Thursday evenings, plus Saturday mornings. If interested contact Ron at 699-0177.
