10U Rec:
Elkhorn Girls Softball Association offers a 10U kid pitch recreational softball league for girls ranging in age from eight to ten years of age.
Eight is a border-line age. If your eight year old has played one or two years of coach pitch, then it is strongly recommended that she move up to 10U rec kid pitch.
Team roster sizes vary depending on the number of girls registered and the number of volunteer coaches. The last couple of years roster sizes ranged from 10 to 12 girls per team.
Upon return of equipment at the end of the season, each head coach is refunded the amount of the registration fee for one child on the team they coached.
All practices and games are held at Fire Ridge Elementary School. A first aide kit is available in one of the lock boxes.
Registration fee includes: Practice time, Game time, T-Shirt, Participation Medal, Insurance coverage.
Available for an additional cost: Pictures, T-Shirt for assistant coaches, Visor (the visors are one size fits all with a script Eklhorn across the front and can be used up through the age of fourteen on EGSA affiliated teams.
Participants are asked to provide: Glove, Shoes, Drink, Appropriate practice and game apparel.
Rules:
The umpires (One per game) for the games will be assigned by the EGSA. In the event of a rainout or the need arises to change dates of scheduled games, please contact the opposing team coach well in advance to avoid confusion and to schedule an alternate date. Please inform the league commissioner of any changes. All games must be played or considered a loss.
1. Player eligibility -- 10 years and under, player must not reach 11 before January 1.
2. Game rules may be altered with the mutual agreement of team coaches to complete the game in the allotted time.
3. Base length is 50 feet.
4. Pitching distance is 30 feet.
5. All games should be played with no more than 10 (10th shall be a rover in the outfield) and no less than 8 players on the field. When playing with 8 players, the 9th spot in the batting order does not constitute an out. If you must start play with less than 8 players, the 8th spot in the batting order would constitute an out.
6. All offensive players on the bench will bat consecutively whether or not they are playing the field.
7. Up to five innings will be played. If the game is tied, then declare a tie. If home team is ahead after 4 ˝ innings, the game is over.
8. Either 3 outs or 5 runs determine a 1/2 inning.
9. Time limit on games is one hour twenty minutes. At the end of the time limit, the game will be over. This allows the following games to start on time. The end of the year tournament will have a one hour fifteen minute time limit, with innings being completed when necessary.
10. All teams must keep a scorebook in the event of a dispute over the game scores. One is provided to you.
11. The infield fly rule does not apply.
12. A batter who throws her bat is out. (This is an umpire’s ruling).
13. Base stealing will not be allowed (This includes passed balls and wild pitches)
14. Runner advancement stops once the pitcher has possession of the ball in the circle.
15. One base allowed on an overthrow.
16. A runner may leave the base after the ball has been released from the pitcher.
17. Drop 3rd strike rule is NOT in effect; batter is out on strike three.
18. Coach will pitch (To their own batters) after 4 (four) balls have been called. The coach who is the designated pitcher can also act as infield umpire when needed..
19. Batter can strike out against the coach. No walks will be allowed.
20. All teams will play with an 11-inch (Soft) ball in good condition.
21. No player shall play the same position for more than two innings per game.
22. There will be unlimited substitutions allowed. Batting order will remain the same.
23. Hitters/base runners will wear batting helmets with faceguards.
24. Awards will be as follows: All players receive a medal.
